Shuvalov holds meeting of APEC summit organizing committee

MOSCOW. July 12 (Interfax) - Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov has held a session of the organizing committee in charge of preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Russia summit 2012.

"Members of the organizing committee discussed in detail transportation and accommodation of attendees and guests of the APEC summit and the Business Advisory Council," Shuvalov's secretariat said on Thursday.

The city of Vladivostok is 95% ready to host the summit, "the cosmetic work" is almost finished: the last parts of asphalt are being laid, facades built, and lighting systems installed at new sites, Vladivostok Mayor Igor Pushkaryov told reporters after the session. "Traffic on all three bridges, on the road, aeroexpress trains, treatment systems and other facilities will be working at full capacity in two or three weeks," the mayor said.

In all, 204 billion rubles in federal funding has been spent on preparations for the summit, including the construction of a university and bridges, and airport reconstruction, he said. The city and non-budgetary sources spent over 600 billion rubles on the preparations.

"The readiness is normal, going to schedule. We are gradually receiving relevant documents on the completion of facilities. We have no fear that something might not be completed," Governor of the Primorsky Territory Vladimir Miklushevsky said.

The construction of the campus area of the Far Eastern Federal University on the Russky Island, where the APEC summit will take place, has been completed, said Aras Agalarov, President of Crocus, the general building contractor.
