Rosatom, Areva might cooperate in servicing NPP, SNF, fast reactors
MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom and French nuclear power company Areva, two of the biggest players on the global nuclear energy market, have signed a memorandum of mutual understanding to look into opportunities for cooperation, Rosatom said in a statement.
The companies will set up working groups that will focus on studying joint opportunities in the area of servicing and modernizing nuclear power plants in third countries, development of fast neutron reactor technology, handling spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and production and delivery of nuclear island equipment.
Rosatom is also open to cooperation in the area of nuclear medicine and radiation technologies in general, company CEO Sergei Kiriyenko was cited as saying in the statement.
Rosatom includes all Russian companies in the nuclear power and nuclear weapons sectors.
Areva includes operations in uranium mining and enrichment, nuclear fuel fabrication and reactor construction.
