KazEnergoRegion to build new oil refinery in North Kazakhstan

PETROPAVLOVSK. July 27 (Interfax) - The KazEnergoRegion investment company plans to build an oil refinery with a yearly design capacity of 5 million tonnes in the North Kazakhstan region, the regional akim's (governor's) office told Interfax.

"At a meeting with representatives of the KazEnergoRegion company held by CEO Kazhimkan Massimov and foreign companies, the akim's office reviewed the project of an oil refinery in North Kazakhstan, which is part of the comprehensive plan for developing the oil refining capabilities of Kazakhstan in 2009-2015," the akim's office said.

The proposed site of the refinery is located near the town of Bulayevo. The refinery is projected to have a yearly capacity of 5 million tonnse.

KazEnergoRegion has also proposed building a so-called "smart eco-neighborhood", fully independent in terms of heating and power supplies.

The regional akim (governor) Serik Bilyalov has already approved the project and allocated 235 hectares of land to it in a suburb of Petropavlovsk, the akim's office said.
