Parliament speakers from Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus to discuss formation of Eurasian parliament

ASTANA. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Belarusian National Assembly Council speaker Anatoly Rubinov and Russian Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko will officially visit Astana on August 27-29, chairman of the Kazakhstani Senate Kairat Mami has announced.

"In the context of their visit we plan to hold bilateral meetings at which we will discuss current problems in bilateral relations and the prospects of these relations. Special attention will be paid to the advancement of interparliamentary ties," he wrote in his blog last Friday.

The widely debated issue of forming the Eurasian parliament will also be on the agenda, Mami said.

"The matter requires close and all-round consideration. In this context I want to say that a working group has been formed consisting of members of the parliaments of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus," he said.

He said that the Kazakhstani side on the working group is represented by members of both houses of parliament.

"The first session of the working group will take place in Moscow in September and it will be attended by Senate members G. Kasymov and M.Altynbayev," Mami wrote.
