NATO has devised plan to defend Turkey if needed - Rasmussen

BRUSSELS. Oct 9 (Interfax) - NATO has devised ample plans to defend Turkey if this is needed, NATO Secretary General Andres Fogh Rasmussen told the media on Tuesday.

Rasmussen made this statement in connection with tensions on the Syrian-Turkish border after shells, fired by the Syrian armed forces had reached Turkish territory repeatedly.

Five residents of the Turkish town of Akcakale were killed in Syrian mortar fire last Wednesday.
