Medvedev hopes Russia will succeed in remaining within median scenario of economic development
MOSCOW. Oct 14 (Interfax) - The Russian government doesn't have any dilemma choosing with between economic development and fiscal consolidation, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said.
"We don't have any dilemma of choosing between development and fiscal consolidation. I believe we must deal with both, and it is a question of choice how to put the two together, the responsibility of the government in the final account," he said at an off-site session of the World Economic Forum having "Russia in the World Context" as its subject.
Medvedev noted that in the process of shaping the national budget in the past few months he saw himself how difficult the task is "even in conditions of more or less presentable indicators of economic growth."
"I sympathize with my colleagues in Europe where the situation is very grave. It proved quite complex to compose a budget that would permit the country to develop even given more or less acceptable indicators," he admitted.
Medvedev voiced hope that despite certain economic difficulties Russia will succeed in remaining in the framework of a median scenario of economic development in the next few years. "I still expect that we will fit at least the median scenario," he said.
