Prosecutors insist on prison sentence of 11 years, 3 months for Lebedev

VELKS, Arkhangelsk region. Nov 1 (Interfax) - Prosecutors agree to cut the prison sentence of former Menatep Group head Platon Lebedev to 11 years and three months, prosecutor Sergei Semyonov said at a hearing of the Velsk City Court in the Arkhangelsk region.

The court is hearing the demand of the Lebedev defense for a lesser prison sentence.

The Velsk District Court heard a Lebedev appeal on August 8: the former Menatep Group CEO requested to cut his imprisonment term to what he had already served. Prosecutors said that the sentence might be cut from 13 years to 11 years and three months. In the end, the court cut the total prison sentence of Lebedev, who has stood two trials, to nine years and eight months.

Prosecutors appealed the decision of the Velsk court, and the Arkhangelsk Regional Court overruled the judgment and ordered a new hearing on September 21.
