Kyrgyz opposition parliamentarian to remain in custody
BISHKEK. Nov 1 (Interfax) - The Kyrgyz Supreme Court has prolonged the custodial term of the Ata-Zhurt opposition faction's parliamentarian Talant Mamytov until December 6, a court spokesman told Interfax on Thursday.
"A supervisory appeal lodged by his lawyer has been rejected," he said.
Mamytov, who has been accused of "publicly calling for the subversion of the constitutional system" and "attempting to seize power by violent methods", was arrested and placed in the Kyrgyz National Security Committee's remand center on October 5.
The Supreme Council's panel for criminal cases and administrative offences earlier upheld a lower court's decision to remand the opposition parliamentarian into custody.
