EU envoy visits Tymoshenko in hospital
KHARKIV, Ukraine. Nov 1 (Interfax) - The head of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine, Jan Tombinski, and the Polish Consul in Ukraine, Jan Granat, were seen entering the hospital in Kharkiv where ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko is receiving treatment after being sentenced to seven years in prison a year ago, an Interfax reporter said.
Tombinski had a meeting scheduled with Tymoshenko at the hospital.
Batkivshchyna United Opposition leaders Oleksandr Turchynov, Arseny Yatsenyuk and Hryhory Nemyrya also arrived at the hospital on Thursday to meet with Tymoshenko.
The State Penitentiary Service said it had permitted those visits as an exception in the hope that Tymoshenko would end a hunger strike she began on Monday to protest against alleged vote rigging during parliamentary elections the day before.
