Putin asks United Russia faction leader Vorobyov to become acting Moscow region governor

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin has offered United Russia faction leader Andrei Vorobyov the position of Acting Moscow Region Governor.

"The work in the national parliament is very important for every person, especially for the head of the biggest faction, but I would still want to offer you a new job in the executive authorities. I mean the position of the acting governor of the Moscow region," Putin told Vorobyov.

"I accept," Vorobyov responded. "That is a big and complex region, but I am ready to take this job."

Former Moscow Region Governor Sergei Shoigu was appointed as Defense Minister on Tuesday.

The Shoigu team had drafted a detailed action plan, Vorobyov said. "We will implement it," he promised.

The Moscow region "is a very important area," Putin said. "Science, industry and culture are best developed here, but the region also has numerous problems, financial and social."
