Former Rosatom top manager charged with embezzlement released on bail

MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court has released Yevgeny Yevstratov, former deputy general director of Rosatom who is charged with embezzlement, on 5-million-ruble bail, his lawyer Alexander Gofshtein told Interfax.

"We will pay the bail today and Yevstratov will be released after the money is paid into the court account," Gofshtein said.

The investigators objected to Yevstratov's release on bail when the appeal was tried in the Moscow City Court, he said.

"The prosecutors agreed with us," the lawyer said.

Yevgeny Yevstratov is involved in a high-profile case involving the embezzlement of public funds.

According to the investigators, Yevstratov, Sergei Kolobayev (former Rosatom department head), Sergei Kazakov (director of the Federal Center for Nuclear Aviation Safety), and Viktor Stovbur (general director of the Emergency-Technical Center SPb (ATTs SPb)) embezzled funds allocated to ATTs SPb for the design, construction, and operation of objects in Murmansk.

The Moscow Ostankinsky Court issued an arrest warrant for Yevstratov on July 20, 2011. He is charged with two counts of embezzlement in an amount of over 46 million rubles. A criminal case was opened against him on the basis of Article 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud).

The court then declined the requests made by the lawyers for Yevstratov to release him on 5-million-ruble bail.
