Putin urges appropriate Russian response to U.S. Magnitsky Act

MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - Russia's law retaliating against the adoption of the Magnitsky Act in the United States should be "appropriate, but not off-the-scale", President Vladimir Putin said.

"We certainly need to offer an appropriate response. The Foreign Ministry said at the very beginning that there would be a response. In my opinion, it is totally right that the State Duma took the initiative in this issue. But we need to make sure that our decisions are appropriate, but not off-the-scale," Putin said at a meeting with the members of the Federal Assembly's Council of Lawmakers on Thursday.
