Intl medical commission meets to assess Tymoshenko's condition
KHARKIV, Ukraine. Dec 17 (Interfax) - Annette Reisshauer, a doctor from Berlin's Charite clinic, arrived at Kharkiv's Ukrainian Railroads Hospital No. 5 to re-examine jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who has been taking inpatient treatment there since May.
Reisshauer, who told Interfax she would stay in Kharkiv until Tuesday, is a member of an international commission that convened at the hospital to assess the condition of Tymoshenko, who was prime minister for several months in 2005 and then from 2007 to 2010. The commission's Ukrainian part arrived at the hospital before Reisshauer did.
Tymoshenko was convicted in October 2011 of abuse of office by orchestrating a natural gas deal with Russia in 2009 that allegedly ran against Ukraine's interests.
In December last year, she was moved to the Kachanivska Correctional Colony in Kharkiv to serve her seven-year sentence, but has been hospitalized since May.
