Yuri Dolgoruky submarine to join Russian Navy
MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - The strategic missile-carrying submarine Yuri Dolgoruky will join the Russian Navy on Thursday.
President Vladimir Putin will speak to the submarine crew from Severomorsk. He will be paying a working trip to the Northwestern Federal District on that day, the presidential press service reports.
Putin will visit the Severomorsk base of the North Fleet and have a video-conference with the Yuri Dolgoruky based in Severdvinsk, the Kremlin press service said.
"Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will report to the Supreme Commander from the submarine's central post that the Navy is commissioning the submarine, which the St. Andrew's flag hoisted at the sub will symbolize," the report said.
The Rubin Bureau (General Designer S. N. Kovalyov) designed the leading fourth-generation strategic missile-carrying submarine Yuri Dolgoruky. The submarine construction started at Sevmash in 1996. Submarines of Project "Borei" are built with modern engineering solutions, which improve hydrodynamics of the hull and significantly cut the level of noise. The Yuri Dolgoruky was the 129th nuclear submarine built at Sevmash and delivered to the Navy.
