Storm at Novorossiysk dies down, oil loading continues

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - A storm over the port of Novorossiysk that had been raging since January 17 has died down, and the loading of a tanker with 80,000 tonnes of oil began last night at the second mooring and after the storm ended loading began at the first mooring, the press secretary at Russian oil pipeline company OJSC Transneft , Igor Demin, told Interfax.

"If the weather holds, we'll be able to meet the shipping schedule for this month," Demin said.

Because of bad weather, oil loading at the port was suspended, and on certain days it was able to load a single tanker. Transneft has said more than once that bad weather had been forecast, and the company was able to ready its storage facilities and avoid a halt to the oil being pumped to them.
