American Chamber of Commerce opens office in Vladivostok
VLADIVOSTOK. Feb 19 (Interfax) - A Russian-American business club under the aegis of the American Chamber of Commerce opened in Vladivostok on Tuesday, the regional governor's press service said in a statement.
The club will give businessmen from the United States and Primorye a forum to discuss joint projects.
The opening of the club in Vladivostok was discussed Monday by Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky and AmCham president Andrew Somers.
"I'm glad that such a decision has been made and this business club will be formed. My team and I will support its work in every way. We attach great importance to attracting investment. This is not a matter of fashion, but an objective set by the federal government. After the APEC summit we took a number of steps to improve the investment climate in the region. This includes the creation of a public council and agency for attracting investment," Miklushevsky said at the meeting, according to the statement.
Somers noted the importance of the regional administration's involvement in the work of the business club, and said this would give businessmen confidence that they will be comfortable working in Primorye.
The press service recalled that Miklushevsky and Somers met last September, when the governor proposed that Somers think about opening such a forum in the region to develop cooperation between American and Primorye businessmen.
The opening of the club was attended by representatives of major global corporations such as IBM, General Electrics, Ssang Yong and Hitachi.
