Tymoshenko should return to penal colony if she no longer needs treatment - prosecutors
KYIV. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Ukraine's former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko should be transferred to the Kachanovskaya corrections colony from the Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 if she no longer needs treatment, but a decision on the matter has to be made by the State Penitentiary Service, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office said.
"This issue is the responsibility of the Penitentiary Service. That is, if [Yulia Tymoshenko] does not need treatment, she should be transferred to the colony because she was convicted by court and should serve her sentence there," Liliya Frolova, deputy head of the Main Investigations Department of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office, told reporters in Kyiv.
Kyiv's Pechersky Court found Tymoshenko guilty of abuse of office in concluding a gas supply agreement with Russia in 2009 and sentenced her to seven years in prison on October 11, 2011. She has been serving her prison term at a penal colony in Kharkiv since late December 2011.
