Special operations forces created in Russian Armed Forces - General Staff

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry has begun the creation of a special operations force and has already formed an appropriate command, General Valery Gerasimov, the head of the Russian General Staff, said on Wednesday.

"Having studied the formation, training, and use of the special operations forces of the leading countries of the world, the Defense Ministry's administration also began creating them," Gerasimov told the military attaches of the foreign countries in Moscow.

A set of documents determining the areas of development and ways of training and using these forces has already been prepared, he said.

"An appropriate command has now been created to work on the plan," he said.

Gerasimov said the experience of the wars and military conflicts of the 21st century shows that the role of special operation forces is increasing.
