Mufti Gainutdin supports efforts towards independent state of Palestine

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin has assured the Palestinians support of their efforts towards the establishment of an independent state with the capital city in East Jerusalem, the Muftiat's press service reported.

Gainutdin congratulated Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow on Friday on the acknowledgement of Palestine as a UN observer country.

"Dear Mr. President, you have gone down in history. Russia also cast its vote for the Palestinian people," the mufti said.

He told Abbas about life of Russian Muslims and noted "higher Islamic educational establishments would soon be able to issue state education certificates," the report said.

"We, the Muslims of Russia, pray Allah for tranquility, peace and stability on the Palestinian land," Gainutdin said.

In turn, Abbas asked Russian Muslims to pray for stability on the Palestinian land and the soonest recognition of Palestine as an independent state.
