Kazakh citizens detained with over 20 kilos of heroin in Orenburg region

ORENBURG. March 25 (Interfax) - Officers of the Russian Federal Security Service, FSB, of the Orenburg region have shut down a route to smuggle heroine into Russia, the FSB press office said on March 22.

"Two citizens of Kazakhstan driving a GAZ-3110 vehicle with Kazakh license plates have been detained at the 186th kilometer of the Samara-Orenburg highway in the village of Novaya Aleksandrovka, Buzuluk district of the Orenburg region," the statement said.

During the car search, officers found disguised cavities from which 55 packs of heroine, a total of 22 kilos, have been confiscated.

The press office said that this was the largest consignment of drugs confiscated in the region so far this year.

During investigative procedures, a Tajik citizen, who was waiting for the drugs to distribute them in the Saratov region, has been arrested as well.

A criminal case has been opened. The suspects could face up to a life sentence.
