Former Duma deputy Pekhtin might become first deputy chairman of RusHydro
MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - Former State Duma deputy Vladimir Pekhtin might become the first deputy chairman of RusHydro's management board.
"[Chairman of RusHydro's Management Board Evgeny] Dod called and invited me, 'Come to me as first deputy,'" Pekhtin told reporters on Tuesday, adding that he still has to meet with board of directors approval.
He said that he wants to engage in hydro-electric power plant (HPP) construction at RusHydro, particularly in the Far East.
"I'm satisfied with any position at RusHydro. I mostly like a position that's connected with the construction of hydro-electric facilities and the prospects for developing hydro-electricity," Pekhtin said.
In Pekhtin's view, "RusHydro's management as represented by Mr. Dod today meets all the requirements needed for modern management. That's why it's so comfortable for me to work with him."
RusHydro's board of directors is meeting on Tuesday to discuss increasing the size of the management board and adding Pekhtin to it.
Media reports previously said that Pekhtin might take the reigns at RusHydro.
Pekhtin was a deputy in the State Duma's third, fourth and fifth convocations, and in the sixth he chaired the deputy ethics committee. At a Duma session on February 20, Pekhtin announced that he was voluntarily stepping down in reaction to media reports that he had failed to declare real estate that he owns in Miami. The Duma decided to terminate his deputy powers ahead of schedule on March 15.
Pekhtin was in charge of RusHydro subsidiary OJSC Kolymaenergo and sat on OJSC RAO Energy System of East's (RAO ESE) board of directors in the 1990s. He was also co-chairman of the parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the catastrophe at the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant.
