The stronger Azerbaijan is the sooner its territorial integrity can be restored - Aliyev
BAKU. May 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Azerbaijan wants to resolve the Karabakh conflict on the basis of international legal norms and principles, President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening ceremony of the First South Caucasus Forum in Baku on Tuesday.
"The Karabakh conflict endangers not only Azerbaijan but also the whole region. We want to resolve this conflict on the basis of international legal norms and principles and achieve the restoration of our territorial integrity through this," Aliyev said.
He emphasized that Karabakh was an Azeri land occupied by Armenia together with seven more Azeri lands adjacent to it.
"The UN Security Council adopted four resolutions but, alas, they were not fulfilled. The question about efficiency of international organizations arises as the resolutions have not been fulfilled for 20 years," the president remarked.
"We will carry on our political and economic reforms, as the stronger we are the sooner we can resolve the conflict," the chief of state said.
Speaking of regional cooperation, Aliyev positively evaluated relations with Tbilisi.
"Azeri-Georgian cooperation is the best example of regional interaction. But it is bad that we have no communication with the third neighbor. That is bad for the region," the president stressed. It would be impossible to restore cooperation with that country without Armenia's abandonment of the occupied Azeri lands, he said.
