Two suspected militants killed in Kabardino-Balkaria
MOSCOW. June 1 (Interfax) - Security forces killed two men suspected of belonging to illegal armed units in a special operation aimed at blocking arms supplies to the criminal underworld in Kabardino-Balkaria, the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) has reported.
After Federal Security Service (FSB) operatives received information on arms supplies to illegal armed groups hiding in a forested mountainous area in the Chereksky district of Kabardino-Balkaria, an operation was launched there in the early hours of Saturday, the NAC said.
"After two suspicious individuals appeared at a meeting point in a forest between the villages of Khasanya and Gerpegezh and an attempt was made to detain them, they offered armed resistance by opening automatic fire and throwing grenades. The gunmen were killed in an ensuing armed clash," the NAC said.
