Two suicide belts neutralized in Makhachkala, Kaspiysk

MOSCOW. June 11 (Interfax) - The information center of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee (NCC) has reported the neutralization of two suicide belts in Makhachkala and Kaspiysk.

"The Federal Security Service, the Interior Ministry and the Investigative Committee of Russia investigating terrorist acts in Dagestan have discovered a suicide belt equivalent to 200 grams of TNT in a private home in Makhachkala. A similar handmade explosive device was found in an apartment in Kaspiysk," the report said.

The devices were made from grenade launcher ammunition with electric detonators. They were similar to the bombs found in Makhachkala on June 7.

"Residents of the republic, Makhachkala natives Sabina Sheimuradova and Sultanat Krymova, lived on the premises were the suicide belts were found," says the report received by Interfax.

Security services said the detained women knew each other and used to actively communicate with suicide bombers who had blown themselves up in Dagestan. In addition, Krymova was a common law wife of Kaspiysk gang leader Magomed Jamayev killed in 2012.

"Under the cover of a business making Islamic clothes for women, Krymova used her apartment for psychological treatment of girls; she encouraged them to marry militants and join terrorist operations," the committee said. It noted that belts, which were later stuffed with explosives, might have also been made in the apartment.

The suicide belts were destroyed onsite with a hydrodynamic gun because it was dangerous to move them. There were no casualties or damage in the operation.
