Human rights activists find about 10 complaints on unacceptable treatment in Grozny detention facility

MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - Human rights activists have documented several complaints on torture and abuse in a Grozny detention facility, Presidential Human Rights Council member Andrei Babushkin said.

"We have found approximately ten cases, where people complained about the use of unacceptable methods of conducting an interrogation, let's say this directly - on torture being administered," Babushkin said at a news conference in the central office of Interfax on Wednesday.

According to Babushkin, these people presented their complaints to investigative bodies and the prosecutor's office, but have not received any response.

Babushkin said that the Presidential Human Rights Council had held an off-site meeting in Grozny on the results of the visit to Chechnya during which the Grozny detention facility No. 1 in particular was visited.
