Delaying UN SC reform might lead to negative consequences - Annan

MOSCOW. July 15 (Interfax) - Delaying the reform of the UN Security Council might lead to negative consequences, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said on Monday when speaking at the presentation of his book "Interventions: A life in War and Peace" in Moscow.

Annan said he hoped the reform would happen as soon as possible, otherwise it was impossible to avoid negative consequences.

Annan asked why such countries as India with populations of over a billion, Latin America, Africa were not represented by the UN Security Council.

The current state of the Security Council reflects the geopolitical situation of the late 20th century, Annan said.

Annan said he hoped that all the members of the UN Security Council would wake up and start a process of reform.
