Ukraine follows ECHR ruling in Tymoshenko vs. Ukraine case - Justice Ministry

KYIV. July 19 (Interfax) - The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has heard the Tymoshenko vs. Ukraine case and ruled that former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko's rights were violated when the decision was made on her confinement, the Ukrainian Justice Ministry said.

It also said that Ukraine has taken measures to prevent such violations in the future and thus fulfilled the court's ruling in this case.

Ukraine's new criminal code spells out an absolutely new procedure of taking suspects into custody, of challenging and changing it, and extending the term in custody in compliance with the European Court practice, the Justice Ministry's press service reported on Thursday.

The Justice Ministry also said that Tymoshenko is currently serving a term under an enforced court order which has nothing to do with the case heard by the ECHR.
