Several injured in ammonia blow-out at Stirol facility in Ukraine - press service
KYIV. Aug 6 (Interfax) - An ammonia blow-out during extensive repairs at Plant 1 of Stirol Concern [Horlovka, Ukraine's Donetsk region] has left several people injured, the Ostchem management company's press service reported on Tuesday.
"An ammonia blow-out occurred at the Stirol Concern at 2:30 p.m. during overall repairs at Plant No.1 on August 6. The problem was fixed within 20 minutes, but the accident left several people injured. The accident will be investigated. Local residents are under no threat," the press service said.
A source earlier told Interfax that two people were killed and two others were injured in the emergency.
Stirol is a major Russian chemicals company. Ostchem is a management company that coordinates the strategy of six ammonium chemicals facilities owned by Dmitry Firtash's Group DF, four of which are based in Ukraine: Stirol Concern, the Severodonetsk Azot Association, Cherkassy Azot and Rivneazot.
