Girl brought by Russian mother from Norway gets Russian citizenship - Astakhov
MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax) - A nine-year-old daughter of Russian citizen Svetlana Ampilova, who left Norway due to the violence of her husband, has received Russian citizenship, Russian children's rights commissioner Pavel Astakhov said.
"Angelina Ampilova, 9, who left Norway with her mom, has received Russian citizenship. Thanks to everyone, who helped the girl. The children of Russian parents have the right to their homeland," Astakhov tweeted.
On August 3, the Russian citizen, native of Voronezh, arrived to Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport with her underage daughter Angelina, who did not have Russian citizenship. The woman said that she escaped Norway from her husband's cruel treatment.
On August 6, Astakhov appealed to the Russian Federal Migration Service to grant temporary asylum to the Russian woman's daughter. On late August 6, an employee of the Russian Foreign Ministry's consular department issued a 14-day visa to the girl and then the mother and daughter left the capsule hotel in the Sheremetyevo airport, where they spent the previous four days.
Astakhov said he did not exclude the possibility that due to violence of the husband, the Russian Investigative Committee could open the criminal case if the woman filed a relevant request.
