Kerry has not given direct reply on West's strategy in Syria - Lavrov

MOSCOW. August 26 (Interfax) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry did not give a direct answer concerning the strategy of Western countries in Syria during a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Sunday.

"I asked John Kerry during the yesterday's telephone conversation about the strategy of actions, how they planned to make the announced, or almost announced, although not sanctioned, action against Syria help solve the problems in the region but not multiply them and bring the region to a true disaster," Lavrov told a news conference in Moscow on Monday.

"What is your plan?" Lavrov cited his question to Kerry.

"The answer was much narrower than the question. He simply called on Russia and China to contribute their efforts to eliminate chemical weapons and prevent them from falling into the wrong hands," Lavrov said.
