Ukraine's Stavytsky, EU Energy Commissioner to discuss creation of gas hub
KYIV. Sept 2 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky is to discuss the creation of a gas hub in Ukraine with European Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger in Brussels on September 3.
The press service of the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry told Interfax on Monday that the officials would also discuss energy cooperation and the preparations for this year's winter season.
As reported with reference to Stavytsky, Germany's RWE from September 2013 will start pumping gas to Ukrainian underground storage facilities.
Ukraine plans to develop the Eastern-European gas hub on the basis of its underground storage facilities. Earlier Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said that the storage facilities could operate under the principle of a gas exchange, becoming a spot market in the east of Europe.
