Russia and Lithuania start border demarcation on rivers
VILNIUS. Oct 6 (Interfax/BNS) - Lithuania and Russian experts have started border demarcation along innavigable rivers - the Liepona, the Sirvinita and the Sesupe, the Lithuanian Directorate of Internal Waterways announced on Friday.
The coastlines have been changed with the purpose of establishing the middle of the channel that will be regarded as the state border. Islands were discovered in the process of the work on rivers. Their belonging to either side will have to be defined.
Experts will also make maps for demarcation on which islands of innavigable rivers will be ascribed either to Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation or to Lithuania.
The river measurement operations are expected to be completed by the end of the month.
