Imports of dairy products from Lithuania to Russia suspended - Onishchenko
MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - The Russian sanitation service as of Monday suspended deliveries of dairy products from Lithuania over quality problems, head of Rospotrebnadzor consumer rights' watchdog and Chief Sanitation Doctor Gennady Onishchenko has told Interfax.
"We have sent corresponding documents to the relevant authorities which essentially means the full suspension of the access of Lithuanian dairy products to the Russian market," he said.
"All our grievances concern the main group of Lithuanian suppliers - Pieno Zvaigzdes, Silutes Rambynas, Svalija, Rokiskio Tikras and others," he said.
Onishchenko said that for a long time Rospotrebnadzor had voiced its concerns about the quality of diary products from Lithuania.
"Monitoring was conducted in two directions - under laws on the protection of consumers' rights and sanitation standards," he said.
"We identified breaches of requirements of national law on notifying the population about the compliance of commodities to declared requirements," he said.
He said that yeast and mould were discovered in a number of Lithuanian dairy products in quantities significantly exceeding norms.
He said that cereals with dairy ingredients did not comply with organoleptic indicators.
