Sobyanin agrees with demand to stop illegal migration, opposed to riots
MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Participants in the riots in Moscow's Biryulyovo neighborhood will be held responsible for their crimes, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in the annual address to the Moscow City Duma on Wednesday.
"The [October 10] murder of [Biryulyovo resident] Yegor Shcherbakov is a felony but provocateurs must not use it to instigate inter-ethnic feud and to justify pogroms. Those who went on a rampage at shops and destroyed vehicles committed their own crimes, which will be investigated and referred to a court," Sobyanin said.
"On the other hand, we understand and support the demand of Muscovites to put markets and warehouses in order, to stop illegal migration and to improve police performance," the mayor said.
