No discrimination in raids to determine legal status of migrants - Federal Migration Service head
MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - The approach by Moscow law enforcement authorities towards immigrants following the unrest in Moscow's Biryulyovo district is not discriminative, Russian Federal Migration Service Head Konstantin Romodanovsky said.
"While working with interior ministry agencies, we are determining the legal status of foreign citizens, we help foreign citizens. I do not see any discrimination in this case," Romodanovsky said in an interview with Interfax on Wednesday.
"Work is being held in places where many foreigners gather. Namely the places where excessive numbers of these individuals is observed. It can be seen who these people are, how they live and what they do," Romodanovsky said.
The Amnesty International human rights organization said that raids on migrants were being held following the unrest in Biryulyovo and the legality of actions of law enforcement authorities was questionable.
