Belarus bans import of pork from some regions of Russia over African swine plague
MINSK. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Belarus has banned the supply of pork from some regions of Russia where new cases of African swine plague have been registered.
"The department of veterinary and food supervision of the Agriculture Ministry has reported, citing information obtained from the International Epizootic Bureau, that new outbreaks of African swine plague, an especially dangerous disease, have been registered on the territory of the Vladimir, Saratov, Tula, Yaroslavl, Belgorod, Volgograd, Pskov, Rostov, and Moscow regions," the agency said in a report posted on its website.
The document calls for measures to be taken to prevent live pigs and pork, including wild boar meat, and processed products from being brought into Belarus. The ban also applies to the equipment used for keeping and slaughtering pigs and cutting pig carcasses.
The department called for "additional control measures to ensure biological protection of large pig farms of all legal statuses."
