Russia, India want UN Security Council to be reorganized - joint statement
MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Russia strongly supports India's candidacy as a permanent member of a reformed UN Security Council, says Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's joint statement, adopted at a Russian-Indian summit in the Kremlin.
The two countries share the conviction that the UN Security Council should be reorganized to become more representative and more effective in dealing with new challenges, the statement says.
Russia and India also agree that any enlargement of the UN Security Council should match the present-day situation, the statement says.
