Intl terrorist network member detained in Moscow region

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - A member of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir al-Islami international terrorist network has been detained in the Moscow region, a source from the Russian Interior Ministry press center told Interfax.

"Officers of the Main Counter-Extremism Department of the Russian Interior Ministry and the Counter-Extremism Center of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Department in Moscow identified and detained an active member of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir al-Islami international terrorist network, a 25-year-old citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan," he said.

The Interior Ministry said that the detainee had been booked before: he was deported from the country [Russia] several years ago consistent with Article 18.8 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses [a breach of regulations for entry into Russia by foreign citizens and stateless persons]. The detainee admitted that he disregarded the court order, acquired a fake ID and illegally returned to Russia in order to continue his illegal activity: promotion of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir al-Islami party. He was recruiting new members for the organization and distributing extremist leaflets and copies of Al-Wai'e magazine.

"It must be noted that officers of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Counter-Extremism Department earlier detained a Kyrgyz citizen on the premises of Moscow's historic mosque. He was making public appeals to worshipers to join Hizb-ut-Tahrir al-Islami operations during a Friday prayer," the source said.
