P5+1 ready to recognize Iran's right to enrich uranium given strict IAEA control over program
GENEVA. Nov 24 (Interfax) - In the understanding of P5+1 with Iran the international community agrees with the need to recognize Iran's right to enrich uranium.
"This understanding means that we agree with the need to recognize Iran's right to a peaceful atom, including the right to enrichment, given the realization that the outstanding questions to the Iranian nuclear program and the program itself will be placed under the strictest IAEA control. This is the ultimate objective but it is recorded in today's document already," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said to journalists.
It was also agreed that during six months Iran would freeze its nuclear program and suspend the construction of the reactor in Arak.
"We agreed that there will be stage one - realization of the objective [set by the understanding]. It will take six months. Iran will freeze its entire nuclear program, will not be add centrifuges, and will not take any steps related to the heavy water reactor in Arak. The entire volume of the Iranian nuclear program which is now fully controlled by IAEA will remain for six months. This is meant to build up confidence," Lavrov said.
