Disturbances, hooliganism defendants, suspects may be amnestied - State Duma's decision
MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - The State Duma has decided to amnesty persons convicted, accused and suspected of their participation in and appeals for mass disturbances and of hooliganism.
While hearing the presidential amnesty bill on Wednesday, the State Duma backed the amendments, which included defendants charged with the participation in mass disturbances under Parts 2 and 3 of Article 212 of the Russian Criminal Code in the categories eligible for the amnesty.
It also supported the amendment, which applied the amnesty not only to persons convicted of hooliganism (Article 213) but also to persons suspected or charged with this offense.
This means that some of the Bolotnaya case defendants and persons charged within the Arctic Sunrise case may be amnestied.
It was also decided to apply the amnesty to suspects and defendants accused of violations of traffic rules and vehicle operation regulations (Part 1, Article 264 of the Russian Criminal Code).
