Party of Regions expects Ukrainians to assess parliament factions' efficiency
KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax) - The parliamentary faction of the Party of Regions welcomes the approval of Ukraine's 2014 budget and a number of other important laws.
"No matter how hard the opposition had tried to intervene, the country got its budget, which means that the financial commitments of the country to its citizens will be fully met, social standards will be raised and salaries, pensions, scholarships and social allowances will be paid in due time and in full," the faction said in a statement.
The Verkhovna Rada events of the recent months clearly demonstrated the intentions of the opposition towards Ukrainian society: "they [the opposition] are ready to destroy the country, to split society and sacrifice the public peace, tranquility, life and health of Ukrainian citizens to reach their personal goals," it said.
"Bearing in mind the events of today's plenary session, we are sincerely surprised with the hysterical wailing of certain opposition members about "the destruction of parliamentarianism in Ukraine." We would like to recommend that such pseudo-prophets intelligently study the regulations and detailed analysis of the voting procedures of the plenary meeting established by the law," the statement said.
The faction of the Party of Regions asked the opposition whether they viewed as "the destruction of parliamentarianism" their own actions of blocking the parliament rostrum and the Verkhovna Rada chairman, property damage and stealing of ballot cards from majority deputies.
"We are confident that Ukrainian citizens as major taxpayers will give a principled evaluation of the events, appraise the efficiency of the legislative work of parliamentary factions and remember by name the deputies who hindered the activity of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada and gave "circus" performances at the hall of plenary meetings," the faction concluded.
