Kazakhstan may punish attempt on president's life with death - rights defender

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - The draft of a new Criminal Code of Kazakhstan punishes an attempt on the life of Kazakhstan's first president with death, Charter for Human Rights Executive Director Zhemis Turmagambetova said.

"There is such a norm regarding an attempt on the life of the first president and on the life of the president," she told Interfax on Thursday.

An interdepartmental working group of representatives of all law enforcement agencies, which operated under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office, insisted on death penalty for such crimes, she said.
