Preparations started to put 3rd Tor-M2 air defense system on combat duty in Belarus

MINSK. Jan 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Belarus has started preparations for putting another battery of the Tor-M2 missile air defense system on combat duty at the Domanovo range, the Belarusian Defense Ministry told Interfax.

"After being put on alert, a battery of the Tor-M2 air defense missile system of the 120th Air Defense Missile Brigade has moved toward the assembly area at the Domanovo range," it said.

"The combat vehicles' crews have occupied launch positions and started preparations for being put on combat duty in order to protect the airspace in the designated area," it said.

Interfax reported earlier with reference to the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Forces command that the third battery of the Tor-M2 system had been delivered to Belarus in December 2013.

Belarus bought the first Tor-M2 battery in 2011 and the second at the end of 2012.

The Tor-M2, which has been developed and manufactured by the Almaz-Antei air defense company, belongs to a family of new-generation short-range air defense systems. It is believed to be especially efficient in countering a massive air raid combined with radar jamming.
