48 criminal cases opened in defense sector inspections - prosecutor general
MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Multiple infringements have been exposed in defense procurements, among them overrated contract values and public fund embezzlement, Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika said.
"Forty-eight criminal cases were opened last year after the inspections held in aircraft and shipbuilding corporations in connection with embezzlement and premeditated bankruptcy of industrial enterprises," Chaika said at a meeting of the Prosecutor General's Office Board attended by defense sector executives and Defense Ministry senior officials in Moscow on Wednesday.
Another 43 inspection materials are being processed in a preliminary investigation, he said.
The Russian president has been informed about the exposures and the prosecution service has taken oversight measures.
