Ukrainian opposition wants to conduct independent investigation into violence against Euromaidan activists

KYIV. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Oleksandr Turchinov, a member of the Batkivshchina faction of the Ukrainian parliament, said opposition activists will conduct an alternative investigation into the violations in which Euromaidan activists were hurt.

"Our specialists are beginning an alternative investigation into these crimes," Turchinov told a briefing on Friday, promising that "none of the people responsible for the beatings and torture of people will avoid punishment."

Thousands of criminal cases have been opened against Euromaidan activists in Kyiv and in other regions, but not a single law enforcement official has been prosecuted, he said.

Responding to a question as to who will conduct this alternative investigation, Turchinov said: "We have enough highly qualified specialists [
