Lavrov urges U.S. to maintain dialogue with Syrian govt
MUNICH. Feb 1 (Interfax) - The United States should maintain dialogue not only with the Syrian opposition but also with the official Syrian authorities, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Lavrov noted that Russia is working with both the Syrian government and the opposition on a daily basis. Lavrov noted that he and his colleagues will have a substantive conversation with Syrian National Coalition head Ahmad Jarba when he comes to Moscow next week and urged the U.S. to do the same.
If the U.S. has influence on certain opposition groups and if it believes there are some things concerning humanitarian, political, or any other matters that should be explained to the regime, such contacts should be arranged, he added.
