Another plane brings Russian humanitarian aid to Damascus

MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Humanitarian aid raised at the initiative of Russian parliament members has been delivered to Damascus, coordinator of the inter-faction group for support to Christian values Sergei Gavrilov said.

"People in the Moscow region and Voronezh donated warm clothes and powdered milk to the civilians affected by the hostilities," Gavrilov (the Russian Communist Party) told reporters on Tuesday.

"Russia renders financial and humanitarian support to Syria and Syrian refugees accommodated in neighboring countries on a permanent basis, both as a state and through its public organizations," the deputy said.

He recalled that Federal Assembly deputies brought baby food to Syria in January. "We made sure that the humanitarian aid was distributed honestly and fairly amongst those who had suffered most from violent combat," Gavrilov said.

"Now that the UN Security Council has passed a resolution on the humanitarian situation in Syria, it is necessary to urge the cancellation of unilateral sanctions against Syria by a number of countries," he said.

It is also necessary to demand that "opposition structures provide humanitarian access to the population in areas under their control and in cities besieged by militants," Gavrilov said.
