Ukraine's international reserves fall to $15 bln - Yatsenyuk
KYIV. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Over the past three years Ukraine's gold-currency reserves have fallen from $37 billion to $15 billion and the balance on the single treasury account (STA) has dropped to 4.3 million hryvni, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk told Verkhovna Rada on Thursday.
"The Ukrainian state treasury was robbed and is empty," he said.
The sovereign debt has reached $75 billion, although it was half that size in 2010, he added. "The $37 billion worth of loans that were received have disappeared in an unknown direction," the prime minister said.
The previous authorities moved $70 billion into offshore accounts, he said.
There is no final or credible data on the state of the budget at the moment, but already it is clear that the new government will have to resort to unpopular measures, Yatsenyuk said.
"Therefore I announce that I am not promising improvement either today or tomorrow. Stabilization is our main task," he said.
