Northern Fleet marines perform overnight landing on unequipped coast in Guba Gryaznaya
SEVEROMORSK. Feb 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The Northern Fleet (NF) marine subdivisions and the crew of the large landing ship (LLS) Alexander Otrakovsky have performed an overnight landing on an unequipped shore in the Guba Gryaznaya bay as part of a sudden comprehensive inspection of the combat readiness of troops, NF spokesman 1st Captain Vadim Serga told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
"The NF Separate Marine Regiment' air assault personnel which was put on alert performed a march in military vehicles from their base on the coast of the Barents Sea. At the point of rendezvous with LLS Alexander Otrakovsky, which arrived from the NF main base in the city of Severomorsk, the airborne troops performed an embarkation on board the ship," Serga said.
NF sailors took 15 military vehicles and over 100 marines on board LLS Alexander Otrakovsky, the spokesman said. Then the air assault personnel was delivered to Guba Gryaznaya where it performed an overnight landing on an unequipped coast and, having formed a marching column, began a 200-kilometer march with the aim to arrive to the designated area for the performance of the assigned tasks.
Most of the air assault marine personnel involved in the exercise were taking part in the overnight landing on an unequipped shore for the first time, Serga said. The drills held earlier with drivers of the BTR-80 armored personnel carriers (APCs) on a mockup of the LLS' loading ramp enabled the NF marines to successfully complete the tests for loading and unloading military hardware and personnel during the drills.
