Possible Western sanctions on Russia are illegitimate - Zhirinovsky
MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky believes the United States should be expelled from the G8.
"These threats to expel us from the G8, who gave them this right? We could demand that the U.S. be expelled [from the G8] for attacking Kosovo, Iraq, and Libya," Zhirinovsky told reporters in the State Duma on Wednesday.
"They are not sincere in these events [in the G8]. Protocol events, champagne, and everyone leaves. This doesn't mean that everyone is happy in this company," he said.
Zhirinovsky also believes any sanctions on Russia are unacceptable.
"They are unacceptable. Sanctions are imposed by international bodies over some horrible events, but they are now trying to speak about sanctions while talking about the protection of people. Only barbarians can say that. These things are remnants of the Cold War," he said.
Zhirinovsky also said the possible economic sanctions on Russia cannot have a direct negative effect. "We have more foreign deposits than they have our deposits. They are withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan. We will close our sky to them and that will be it," he said.
"Sanctions are impossible. We should take that as an insult," Zhirinovsky said.
Zhirinovsky later told a plenary session he believes U.S. President Barack Obama should resign.
"They should impeach Obama for financing the extremist radical groups in Ukraine. He should be fired. The Americans will do that," Zhirinovsky said.
